This vintage late 1950's suit ensemble is from designer Vera Maxwell. This outfit includes a beautiful tweed cape with slit openings for arms, a unique chain clasp at neckline, two front pockets and pretty rick rack trim. It comes with a matching straight skirt with the same trim. The cape is lined and the skirt is lined in the back and has a back zipper.
Vera Maxwell was one of the female designers, along with Claire McCardell, Anne Klein, Clare Potter, and Bonnie Cashin, credited with created the genre of sportswear for women in America. I have quite a few of her earlier pieces and they are always exceptionally well made.
This vintage cape and skirt are in excellent condition! Please use the measurements as a guide to the best fit, but I estimate this to be a US modern day size 6/8.
